He wears blue the way some men wear confidence — without thinking about it.

This is the Kaithari double mundu in neelambare and gold: a periwinkle kara that sits somewhere between sky and sea on a clear Kerala afternoon, broad and unhurried, with kasavu lines running through it that catch and hold the light. The body border runs plain — just the blue, clean against ivory. The side border is where the gold enters, precise and purposeful, flanking the kara on both edges with the particular authority that zari has always carried.

Four metres of handloom cotton. He drapes with weight and lands with intention.

This is not the most traditional combination in the Kaithari vocabulary. It is something rarer — a colour that feels at once familiar and unexpected, the kind of blue that works with everything a man already owns. Wear him with a white linen shirt and he reads as easy. With a silk kurta in ivory and he reads as occasion. Either way, he requires almost nothing from you. The blue and the gold have already decided the matter.

Handwoven in Balaramapuram. Double mundu — 4 metres. For the man who wears colour with ease.

Care

These pieces are made to last. Here's how to help them age beautifully.

Handloom cotton develops a patina with time — the fabric softens, the drape becomes more fluid, the colours settle into something richer and more personal than the day it arrived. This is not wear. This is the it becoming yours.

First wash: Dry clean only, to set the kasavu and protect the weave.Thereafter: Hand wash gently in cold water with a mild, colour-safe detergent. Do not wring — press the water out gently and lay flat or hang in shade to dry. Never direct sunlight, which fades the kasavu over time.

Storage: Fold along different lines each time to prevent permanent crease marks. Store wrapped in a soft muslin or cotton cloth — never plastic, which traps moisture. A small piece of dried neem or lavender keeps moths away naturally.

Ironing: Low heat, inside out. A pressing cloth between the iron and the kasavu border protects the gold.A handloom mundu that is worn and washed and worn again will outlast anything in your wardrobe.

Treat it with care, and this mundu will give you decades.
