Orchid Purple And Black Stripe Handwoven Kerala Set Mundu

She is the colour of a flower that doesn't need to be the largest in the garden.

Woven on ivory handloom cotton and bordered in  an orchid purple and a deep charcoal black that alternate and merge in broad stripes, the way two colours do when they have been woven together long enough to understand each other. Where the border meets itself at the pallu, they cross and become something else entirely: a plaid that shifts tone depending on how the light falls, rich in one moment, muted in the next.

She is simple. She is not minimal. There is a difference.

The neryathu is generous — 2.8 metres — so she drapes with ease and lands well. The mundu sits at a full 2 metres. Wear her with a purple blouse in raw silk or fine cotton and she becomes ceremony without effort. Or choose ivory and let the border carry everything. Glass bangles. Small gold. The kind of jewellery that doesn't compete.

Handwoven in Balaramapuram. Single set — No blouse piece included.

Care

These sarees are made to last. Here's how to help them age beautifully.
Handloom cotton develops a patina with time — the fabric softens, the drape becomes more fluid, the colours settle into something richer and more personal than the day it arrived. This is not wear. This is the saree becoming yours.
First wash: Dry clean only, to set the kasavu and protect the weave.
Thereafter: Hand wash gently in cold water with a mild, colour-safe detergent. Do not wring — press the water out gently and lay flat or hang in shade to dry. Never direct sunlight, which fades the kasavu over time.
Storage: Fold along different lines each time to prevent permanent crease marks. Store wrapped in a soft muslin or cotton cloth — never plastic, which traps moisture. A small piece of dried neem or lavender keeps moths away naturally.
Ironing: Low heat, inside out. A pressing cloth between the iron and the kasavu border protects the gold.
A handloom saree that is worn and washed and worn again will outlast anything in your wardrobe. Treat her with care, and she will give you decades.
