This is the Kaithari double mundu for the man who wears colour without explanation. Four metres of ivory handloom cotton, bordered in teal and gold — a bright teal kara that carries the blue-green of the backwaters on a clear morning, flanked by kasavu lines that catch the light and hold it. The border is broad. The colour is unambiguous. The kasavu runs clean along both edges without apology.
He is the youngest double mundu in this collection. Not in construction — in spirit. The one for Onam when you want to be remembered, for a wedding when you are not the groom but you dressed like the occasion deserved your full attention.
Wear him with a white cotton shirt — the teal at the hem will carry the whole look. Or a kurta in ivory with simple gold buttons. Keep the jewellery minimal: a thin chain, perhaps a watch with a leather strap. He has already done the work. Let him.
